Let My Words Be Few

Fires can be started by natural causes such as lightning. However, many fires are started by carelessness. While I would never purposely throw a lit match into a forest or leave a candle burning by curtains, I wonder how many fires I have started with my tongue. I have carelessly tossed out words that have more damage in them than any fire. I have done it as easily as I have seen others toss out a lit cigarette while driving down the road. The driver keeps driving, never looking back and soon the forest is consumed in hot flames. No thought -- just did it. I keep going, never looking and soon those words have consumed someone in pain. No thought -- just said it.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.
(Proverbs 18:21 NASB)

Sticks and stones will break our bones, but words will break our hearts.
Robert Fulghum

My prayer today:
Lord, make my words gracious and tender. Let me speak when spoken through. May I show compassion and Your love with my speech. Let my words be few. Amen.

Great reminder!! Our words are very powerful. They have a power to both heal and wound.

May we do a little healing this season.

There is also that scripture about everything we have said in secret will be shouted from the rooftops! OUCH!

Mom, this is good. I love it! I needed it.

I am about to put a stat meter on your blog. It would be interesting to see who is reading this.
